During the summer months, when members go out of town on vacation and chancels are bathed in green, church choirs traditionally take a break. Paradoxically, this situation presents an opportunity for additional music. For the second year in a row, First Lutheran will host a “summer choir,” open to all ages, that will sing each week at the beginning of the 9:30 Divine Service during July and August.
In 2018, when this opportunity was offered for the first time, it met with great success—anywhere between 4 and 24 singers showed up weekly to praise God in song. In particular, those who aren’t able for whatever reason—distance, scheduling, nature of the commitment—to sing during the rest of the year were greatly appreciative of the chance to sing in the Divine Service.
This opportunity is designed with flexibility in mind: you can sing every week, or every other week, or whenever you’re in town, or even only once. The music will be easy enough that you can learn it in a single rehearsal. And rehearsals will focus almost exclusively on what will be sung that day.
We’ll rehearse each Sunday in July and August at 8:30 in the balcony with whoever shows up—hopefully it will be you!
