On Sunday, March 22, First Lutheran Church is highlighting a special need in our community – the teen moms and their children who live at The Ruth House in Brockton, MA. Ruth House is a program of Ascentria Care Alliance (formerly Lutheran Social Services of New England) that provides homes education, and life training for teen moms and their children, helping them to become self-sufficient and fostering healthy family relationships.
Starting in December, Ruth House has suffered a series of unfortunate events, including two fires, a burst pipe, and a partial roof collapse. Fortunately, no one was injured in any of these incidents. However, the Ruth House facility has suffered significant damage and the residents have been living at a nearby hotel while repairs are made. Most of the costs of rebuilding will be covered by insurance, but there is a $10,000 deductible for each of the 4 incidents (for a total of $40,000). This expense will deplete the program’s limited reserves, and they are asking those who feel moved to make a special donation to help them recover from these disasters.
Please help us help our neighbors by designating a special gift for Ruth House next Sunday. Checks may be made out to First Lutheran Church – please note in the memo line and/or on your envelope “Ruth House Disaster Relief”. If you miss Sunday’s collection, you may donate directly to Ascentria Care Alliance at http://www.ascentria.org/donation, designating your gift for “Ruth House Disaster Relief”.
