handsMission Festival 2013 “Lord Above All Nations”

Christ called his followers to, “Go to all nations…” Here in Boston we celebrate how God has brought people from all nations to our church. For the last two weekends in September there will be special activities highlighting our ministry to people from around the world and right here in our neighborhood.

The theme of this year’s Mission Festival is “Lord Above All Nations.” It’s sure to be a time we can learn and appreciate more the wonderful variety that we have in our First Lutheran Church family. Mission Festival activities will include: international worship music, informational booths representing many cultures, ethnic food, and our own guest presenters from various countries

Schedule for the Mission Festival

During the week of September 22-29, all regularly scheduled First Lutheran events will share a “mission moment” highlighting how we bring the message and example of Christ to others.

September 22

Mission Presentation – After both the 8am and 11am service come down to the undercroft for a mission presentation as we take a tour of Brazil, Eritrea and Germany learning more about the culture and how to better share Christ with people from other countries. Also, don’t miss the yummy international snacks.

September 27

Feijoada Dinner – If you plan to attend, please rsvp by email to elaine.lasser@flc-boston.org or call 617-536-8851.
Back by popular demand… on Friday, September 27 at 6:30pm there will be a delicious Feijoada Dinner offered to the entire congregation and friends as part of the Mission Festival. For those who aren’t familiar with this dish, “feijoada” is a typical Brazilian meal from the middle region of the country. It is a wonderful mix of black bean soup, cooked with many different cuts of meat and spices. Served with rice, farofa (tapioca root), kale (like cabbage), and orange slices. There will be a free will offering to help cover costs.

September 29

Mission Bible Study – After the 8am worship service the Adult Bible study will focus on First Lutheran’s involvement in the mission of the Church.
International Culinary Extravaganza – After the 11am worship service there will be a mouthwatering pot luck lunch with a tasty cuisine of dishes from around the world.
