Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. Our current study is on the Ecumenical Creeds. You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed. Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open our study with Psalm 17, our catechetical lesson will be on the Second Part on Holy Baptism from the Small Catechism. We will continue our study of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds by moving into a discussion of Christ’s work on Earth. We will talk how Jesus’s crucifixion, who Pontius Pilate is, and that all this work that Christ does is for you. We will then sing the hymn “Jesus, I Will Ponder Now” (LSB 440).
We will then discuss Christ’s physical, mental, and spiritual suffering on the cross. We will also discuss the profound truth that the immortal Son of God dies on the cross for the sins of humanity. Finally we will talk about His burial which sanctifies all our graves and fulfills the Sabbath rest. We will close with the hymn “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded” (LSB 450).
