Low Church Devotion – Adolph Tidemand (1852)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. We are studying the book “The Hammer of God”. We are handing out copies of this book as well the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open class with Psalm 146 and our catechism lesson which is on the Fourth Commandment. We will read the second section of the first part “Awakened by the Law” (pg. 43-75). We will read how Curate Savonius with new found zeal dives in the task of being a pastor. His fervor has earned him new enemies as his harsh preaching of the Law has cause those secure in their sins to take offense and work to have him removed. Meanwhile Savonius continues down the road of legalism and pietism, away from the narrow path of orthodoxy. We will close with the hymn “O God, My Faithful God” (LSB 696).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
