Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. Our current study is on the Ecumenical Creeds. You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed. Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open our study with Psalm 19, our catechetical lesson will be on the Fourth Part on Holy Baptism from the Small Catechism. We will continue our study of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds by discussing Christ’s descent into Hell. We will discuss what Christ does while he is down there and how He fully excises His divinity in triumph as He traverses the depths of Hades. We will then sing the hymn “Christ is the World’s Redeemer” (LSB 539).
We will then move on to discuss the resurrection of Christ. We will talk about the prophecies of the resurrection, their fulfillment, and the meaning of the resurrection. We will also discuss the historicity and reality of the resurrection of Christ and how it prefigures our own resurrection on the Last Day. We will close with the hymn “Christ Jesus Lay in Death’s Strong Bands” (LSB 458).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
