Lutheran Pastor Confirming Youth, from Denkstein zum Fünfundsiebzigjährigen Jubiläum der Missourisynode, 1847-1922 by George Mezger (1922)

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  You can also join us remotely via our livestream.  We are studying the book “The Hammer of God”.  We are handing out copies of this book as well the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open class with Psalm 147 and our catechism lesson which is on the Fifth Commandment.  We will read the third section of the first part “Poverty of Spirit and the Light of the Gospel” (pg. 77-110).  We will read about Savonius as he deals with the weight of the Law he has been continually preaching.  As he waits for the decision of the cathedral regarding his fate, he sees the fruit of his legalism both in his own heart and his parishoners.  Then just as he despairs of his salvation, the power of the Gospel comes to him again and we learn of the cathedral’s decision.  We will close with the hymn “Jesus, Priceless Treasure” (LSB 743).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
