Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. We are studying the book “The Hammer of God”. We are handing out copies of this book as well the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open class with Psalm 1 and our catechism lesson which is on the Ninth Commandment. We will read the first part of the third section “New Life” (pg. 195-235). We will read about how Vicar Torvik has taken over the parish after the previous rector’s negligence. Torvik, who is a high church higher critic, struggles to pastor this dying congregation as his real interest is in scholarly pursuits. However a vivid dream awaits to ignite his zeal. We will close with the canticle “The Benedictus” (LSB 226-227).
