Martin Luther as Augustinian Monk with the Dove of the Holy Ghost. Hans Baldung-Grien (1521)

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube.  Our current study is on the Ecumenical Creeds.  You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed.  Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open our study with Psalm 22, our catechetical lesson will be on the First Commandment from the Small Catechism. We will continue our study of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds by starting our discussion of the Third Article of the Creed.  We will talk about who the Holy Spirit and what His role is in the life of the Christian.  We will then sing the hymn “Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord” (LSB 497).

We will then talk about how the Holy Spirit is God and that He is the giver of life.  That all life flows from Him, both physical and spiritual. We will then sing the hymn “O Day Full of Grace” (LSB 503).

Next we will discuss the Holy Spirit’s relation to the other two persons of the Trinity.  That He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and is sent to us by both.  The Holy Spirit is sent from God as God to be our Advocate and Comforter.  We will then close with the hymn “Come, Holy Ghost, Creator Blest” (LSB 498).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
