Finnish Soldiers in the Winter War (1939-1940)

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  You can also join us remotely via our livestream.  We are finishing up our study of the book “The Hammer of God”.  We are handing out copies of this book as well the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.  Our next study will start on October 30th and will be on the Large Catechism.

We will open class with Psalm 3 and our catechism lesson which is on the Close of the Commandments.  We will read the third part of the third section “In the Place of Sinners” (pg. 283-332). We will see the outcome of the parting of ways between Torvik and Schenstedt, and how Schenstedt has fallen further in to blasphemy.  Meanwhile the sins of Schenstedt cause pain to his mother and other loved ones as they pray for his faith to be restored.  Schenstedt heads off to fight in the Winter War and those at home fear for his aoul.  We will close with the hymn “Built on the Rock” (LSB 645).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
