Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. We are studying the book “The Hammer of God”. We are handing out copies of this book as well the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open class with Psalm 2 and our catechism lesson which is on the Tenth Commandment. We will read the second part of the third section “A Heart of Stone and a Rock of Salvation” (pg. 237-282). Now that Torvik is the pastor of the parish we will see the outcome of the revival that has come from his and Schenstedt’s work. Torvik will become distressed though as his friend Schenstedt drifts further and further in to outright enthusiasm, thinking that the Lord is still speaking new doctrine today. It all comes to a head when they are go to preach at a Lenten service, and Torvik must decide if he holds to Scripture alone as the only Word of God. We will close with the hymn “I Know My Faith Is Founded” (LSB 587).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
