Behold a host arrayed in white (Revelation 7:9-17)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. Our current study is on the Ecumenical Creeds. You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed. Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open our study with Psalm 23, our catechetical lesson will be on the Second Commandment from the Small Catechism. We will continue our study of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds by continuing our discussion about the Holy Spirit. We will talk about how the Holy Spirit is to be worshiped and glorified along with the Father and the Son. We will then so do with the hymn “The Lord, My God Be Praised” (LSB 794).
Next we will talk about prophetic inspiration. That the Holy Spirit was the one speaking by the prophets of old as well as the apostles. That all Scripture is His Word given to us via these men. We will then sing the hymn “God Has Spoken by His Prophets” (LSB 583).
We will then talk about the Holy Spirit’s creation and instrument, the Church. That the church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. Namely that the church is unified around the doctrine of the apostle’s from all times, tribes, and tongues, and that we are sanctified by this Word. We will close with the hymn “The Church’s One Foundation” (LSB 644).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
