Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings immediately following the midweek Advent Vespers which start 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. If you do not have a hard copy of the Book of Concord we are providing it for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will read the First Commandment from the Small Catechism, and sing verses 1, 2, 11-12 of “These are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581), and then pick up with paragraph 24 in our study of the First Commandment in the Large Catechism. We will discuss what God demands of us as God, namely our fear, love, and trust. We will also discuss idolatry, false religions, and syncretism. We will close by singing “Sing Praise to God the Highest Good” (LSB 819).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
