Martin Luther Preaching, from the Altarpiece of the Church of Torslunde, 1561

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  You can also join us remotely via our livestream.  We are studying Martin Luther’s Large Catechism.   As part of the class we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord (which contains the Catechism) and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open our study Psalm 8, recite the Second Commandment from the Small Catechism, and sing verses 1, 3, 11-12 of “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581).  We will then pick up in our study of the Second Commandment with paragraph 64.  We will discuss how we are to use God’s name properly, for prayer, praise, and giving thanks.  We will continue with the hymn “At the Name of Jesus” (LSB 512).

We will open our study Psalm 84, recite the Third Commandment from the Small Catechism, and sing verses 1, 4, 11-12 of “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581).  We will then study the Third Commandment  We will then learn about how Christ is the fulfillment of the Sabbath and why we now worship on Sunday.  We will also discuss how the Word of God sanctifies every day for worship and how we are to be constantly attendant to His Word.  We will close with the hymn “Lord Jesus Christ, with Us Abide” (LSB 585).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
