The Blasphemer by Niccolo Dell Abbate

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  You can also join us remotely via our livestream.  We are studying Martin Luther’s Large Catechism.   As part of the class we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord (which contains the Catechism) and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open our study Psalm 115, recite the First Commandment from the Small Catechism, and sing verses 1, 2, 11-12 of “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581).  We will then pick up in our study of the First Commandment at paragraph 24.  We will finish our discussion of what it means to have a God, and that God requires us to fear, love, and trust only in Him.  We will discuss false gods, false religion, idolatry, and syncretism.  We will then sing the hymn “Sing Praise to God the Highest Good” (LSB 819).

We will then pray Psalm 8, recite the Second Commandment from the Small Catechism, and sing verses 1, 3, 11-12 of “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581).  We will then study the Second Commandment.  We will talk about the abuse of the Lord’s name, including false oaths and false doctrine.  We will then discuss how we are to use God’s name properly, for prayer, praise, and giving thanks.  We will close with the hymn “At the Name of Jesus” (LSB 512).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
