Lutheran Essentials is currently meeting remotely due to the COVID19 pandemic. You can join us via our livestream, we will start at 7pm. We are studying Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. As part of the class we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord (which contains the Catechism) and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open our study with Psalm 23, recite the Seventh Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism, and sing verse 8 of the hymn “Our Father Who From Heaven Above” (LSB 766). We will look at the Seventh Petition of the Lord’s Prayer in the Large Catechism. We will discuss how the Lord protects us from all evil, especially against Satan and all his horde. We will then sing the hymn “O Little Flock Fear Not the Foe” (LSB 666).
We will then read the Conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer in from the Small Catechism, and sing verse 9 of “Our Father Who From Heaven Above” (LSB 766). We will then read about the meaning of the word Amen, and the confidence we should have in the Lord hearing and answering our prayers from the Large Catechism. We will then sing the full hymn “Our Father Who From Heaven Above” (LSB 766)
We will continue our study with Psalm 89, recite the instruction on Holy Baptism from the Small Catechism, and sing the hymn “To Jordan Came the Christ, Our Lord” (LSB 406). We will begin our look at the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in the Large Catechism. We will discuss what a Sacrament is and how many Sacraments there are. We will also talk about how Baptism is not just mere water, but water combined with God’s Word.
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
