Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  Our current study is Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. If you do not have a hard copy of the Book of Concord we are providing it for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.

This week we will recite Psalm 96, read the First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism, and sing verse 2 of “Our Father, Who From Heaven Above” (LSB 766).  We will then study the First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer in the Large Catechism.  We will talk about what it means for God’s name to be holy among us.  We will talk about the proper use of God’s name and the great treasure we have of using His name to call upon Him in prayer. We will close this section with the hymn “Oh Lord Look Down From Heaven Behold” (TLH 260).

We will then recite Psalm 24, read the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism, and sing verse 3 of “Our Father, Who From Heaven Above” (LSB 766).  We will then study the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer in the Large Catechism.  We will talk about what the Lord’s Kingdom is and where it is to be found.  We will also discuss what it means for God’s Kingdom to come to us. We will close this section with the hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” (LSB 357).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
