St. Peter Preaching, Masolino da Panicale (1426/7)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen. Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are studying the Augsburg Confession. As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:25-32 (Daleth) and our Catechism lesson will be on the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed. We will consider Article V of the Augsburg Confession on the Ministry. We will talk about how we receive the gifts of God through pastors. We will also discuss the qualifications for the Office of the Ministry. We will then sing the hymn “Shepherd of Tender Youth” (LSB 864)
Next we will cover Article VI on New Obedience. We will talk about how desire to follow the Law of God flows from the righteousness of faith. That in order to know what works are pleasing to God the Law was given to man and must be taught to the regenerate, for works do not justify or precede faith but follow from faith. We will close with the hymn “O God, My Faithful God” (LSB 696).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
