Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. This is the final week we are studying the Augsburg Confession using the 2nd Edition of the Readers Edition of the Book of Concord. If you do not have a copy we are providing them for free. Our new topic will be on the Canon of Scripture which will start on May 21st.
The Psalm for this session is Psalm 119:145-152 (Qoph). The Small Catechism lesson is the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer. Previously we covered the article on Monastic Vows (XXVII).
This week we will be covering Church Authority (XXVIII). We will discuss two kingdom theology, bishops, and if any one has the right to establish new traditions that violate the Gospel. The Confutation disagrees with this and the Apology rehashes many of the arguments that the Augsburg Confession makes, thus we will only read the conclusion to the Apology of the Augsburg Confession Article XXVIII (XIV) 22-27. The hymn for this article is “One Things Needful” (LSB 536).
We will finish the class by reading the Conclusion to the Augsburg Confession. Here we will answer any final questions regarding this great confession of faith. We will close the study by singing the great Luther hymn “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” (LSB 656)
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions. Have a blessed 4th week of Easter.
