The Ascension of Christ, Dosso Dossi (16th Century)

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm.  You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen.  Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube.  We are studying the Augsburg Confession.   As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:17-24 (Gimel) and our Catechism lesson will be on the First Article of the Apostles’ Creed.  We will consider Article III of the Augsburg Confession on the Son of God.  We will discuss who Jesus Christ is as the Second Person of the Trinity.  We will also discuss His work for our sake.  We will then sing the hymn “O Love, How Deep” (LSB 544)

Next we will cover Article IV on Justification.  We talk about the importance of this pivotal article for the Christian, for without this article the Church ceases to exist.  We will discuss the atonement won by Christ and how mankind is justified to God by His work on the Christ.  That is gift is free for all and apprehended by faith alone without works.  We will close with the hymn “Salvation Unto Us Has Come” (LSB 555)

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
