Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings following the Lenten Midweek Vespers service at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. If you do not have a hard copy of the Book of Concord we are providing it for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
This week we will recite Psalm 19, read the Ninth and Tenth Commandments from the Small Catechism, and singing verses 1, 10-12 of “These are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581). We will then read the Ninth and Tenth Commandments in the Large Catechism. We will discuss what it means to covet and envy. We will also talk about trying to gain other people’s possessions by show of right. We will discuss how we are be content with what we have and to help and aid our neighbor in the maintenance and increase of their earthly life and relations. We will close with the hymn “If Thou Bust Trust in God to Guide Thee” (LSB 750)
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
