Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings after the Lenten midweek service that starts at 7pm. Currently we are studying the Augsburg Confession using the 2nd Edition of the Readers Edition of the Book of Concord. If you do not have a copy we are providing them for free.
The Psalm for this session is Psalm 119:97-104 (Mem). The Small Catechism lesson is the Second Article of the Apostle’s Creed. Last week we covered the articles on the Cause of Sin (XIX) and Good Works (XX).
This week we will be covering Worship of the Saints (XXI). We will discuss whether we should pray to the saints, do the saints hear our prayers, and why saints are important even if we are not to pray to them. Since the Confutation disagrees with this article we will read from the Apology of the Augsburg Confession Article XXI (IX) 1-14, 25-34. The hymn for this article would be “For All the Saints” (LSB 677), however since it is Lent we will be using is “By All Your Saints in Warfare” v. 1,4,3 (LSB 517).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions. Have a blessed 3rd week of Lent.
