Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings after the Lenten midweek service that starts at 7pm. Currently we are studying the Augsburg Confession using the 2nd Edition of the Readers Edition of the Book of Concord. If you do not have a copy we are providing them for free.
The Psalm for this session is Psalm 119:89-96 (Lamedh). The Small Catechism lesson is the First Article of the Apostle’s Creed. Last week we covered the article on Free Will (XVIII).
This week we will be covering the Cause of Sin (XIX). We will discuss whether God causes us the sin, and the origin of sin. Since the Confutation agrees with this article we will not read from the Apology of the Augsburg Confession. The hymn for this article is “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded” (LSB 450).
Next we will cover Good Works (XX). We will discuss what are Good Works, that they flow from faith, and they they play no part in our Justification. The Confutation disagrees with this article so we will read the Apology of the Augsburg Confession Article XX. The hymn for this article is “Renew Me, O Eternal Light” (LSB 704).
