Icon of the Descent of the Holy Spirit by Theophanis the Cretan (1535)

Lutheran Essentials is currently meeting remotely due to the COVID pandemic.  You can join us via our livestream, we will start at 7pm.  We are studying Martin Luther’s Large Catechism.   As part of the class we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord (which contains the Catechism) and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open our study with Psalm 51, recite the Third Article of the Creed from the Small Catechism, and sing verse 3 of the hymn “We All Believe in One True God” (LSB 954).  We will then look at the Third Article in the Large Catechism.  We will discuss the Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, and His work of sanctification.  We will also discuss charismatic gifts and cessationism, namely that charismatic gifts ceased after the apostolic age as Scripture predicts and history shows.

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
