Luther Presiding at the Lord’s Supper, König, Gustav Ferdinand Leopold. 1900. The life of Luther in forty-eight historical engravings. St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 119

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm.  You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen.  Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube.  We are studying the Augsburg Confession.   As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:41-48 (Waw) and our Catechism lesson will be on the Introduction of the Lord’s Prayer.  We will consider Article IX of the Augsburg Confession on Baptism.  We will talk about how Baptism is necessary for salvation and what Baptism is, namely the Word of God applied to water for the forgiveness of sins.  We will also talk about infant Baptism and how Baptism creates the faith that holds the promises it delivers.  We will then sing the hymn “To Jordan Came the Christ, Our Lord” (LSB 406).

Next we will cover Article X on the Lord’s Supper.  We discuss that the Lord’s supper is Christ’s Body and Blood in, with, and under the bread and wine.  How this gift is given for our forgiveness and consolation.  We will close with the hymn “Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Savior” (LSB 627).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
