Jesus promising the Holy Spirit after the Last Supper (John 14-17), from Maesta by Duccio, 1308-1311

Lutheran Essentials is currently meeting remotely due to the COVID19 pandemic.  You can join us via our livestream, we will start at 7pm.  We are finishing our study of Martin Luther’s Large Catechism this week.  Next week we will begin our new study on Luther’s “On the Freedom of a Christian”.   As part of the class we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord (which contains the Catechism) and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open our study with Psalm 116, recite the instruction on The Sacrament of the Altar from the Small Catechism, and sing the hymn “Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Savior” (LSB 627).  We will finish our look at the Sacrament of the Altar in the Large Catechism starting at paragraph 39.  We will talk who receives the Sacrament of the Altar worthily.  That it is only by faith that we are worthy to receive.  We will also talk about how often one should come to the Sacrament, as well as address various questions regarding proper Communion practice.  We will close our study with the hymn “Lord, Help Us Ever to Retain” (LSB 865)

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
