Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen. Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are studying the Augsburg Confession. As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:65-72 (Teth) and our Catechism lesson will be on the Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer. We will consider Article XV of the Augsburg Confession on Church Ceremonies. We will talk about what ceremonies and traditions are to be used in the church and how the Lutheran Reformation is a conservative reformation. We will also talk about what to do if a ceremony is to be changed. We will then sing the hymn “Not All the Blood of Beasts” (LSB 431).
Next we will cover Article XVI on Civil Government. We will discuss the distinction between the Kingdom of the Left (State) and the Kingdom of the Right (Church). We will also show that Christians can in good conscience serve in the government, be soldiers, and jurors. We will close with the hymn “Before You, Lord, We Bow” (LSB 966).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
