God surrounded by seraphim from Petites Heures de Jean de Berry, Limbourg brothers (1375-1390)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen. Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are studying the Augsburg Confession. As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:33-40 (He) and our Catechism lesson will be on the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed. We will consider Article VII of the Augsburg Confession on the Church. We will discuss what the church is. We will also discussion how true unity is found in unity of doctrine. We will then sing the hymn “I Love Your Kingdom, Lord” (LSB 651)
Next we will cover Article VIII on What the Church Is. We will talk about the distinction between the visible and invisible church. We will discuss that Sacraments administered by evil men are efficacious because of God’s Word and promise and not due to the character of the man administering them. We will close with the hymn “Built on the Rock” (LSB 645)
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
