Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is on the Epitome of the Formula of Concord. If you do not have a copy of the Book of Concord or the Lutheran Service Book we are providing them for free.
This week’s psalm is Psalm 71. The Small Catechism lesson is the First Part on Holy Baptism.
We will be reading Article XI: God’s Eternal Foreknowledge, Predestination, and Election. We will discuss how God’s Foreknowledge and God’s Election of believers to salvation are distinct from each other. We will also discuss why God’s Election of some to salvation does not then mean that God elects others to damnation as is taught by the Calvinists. Rather we will discuss Election as Scripture does, as a doctrine of comfort and blessing. We will close with the hymn “If God Himself Be For Me” (LSB 724).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. We will be starting a new study on the intersection of science and Christian theology using the book “In Christ All Things Hold Together”. We will start this study on July 13th after we finish our current study on the Formula of Concord. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
