Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is on the Epitome of the Formula of Concord. If you do not have a copy of the Book of Concord or the Lutheran Service Book we are providing them for free.
This week’s psalm is Psalm 70. The Small Catechism lesson is the Seventh Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.
We will be studying Article X: Church Practices. We will talk about what is adiaphora (things neither commanded nor forbidden) and what items count as adiaphora. We will also discuss how one goes about changing church practices and for what reasons one should change practice if it is needed. In addition we will discuss what it means to be a conservative Reformation. We will close with the hymn “Lord Jesus Christ the Church’s Head” (LSB 647).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. We will be starting a new study on the intersection of science and Christian theology using the book “In Christ All Things Hold Together”. We will start this study on July 13th after we finish our current study on the Formula of Concord. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
