Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. We are studying the The Smalcald Articles in the Book of Concord. If you do not have a copy of the Book of Concord we are providing them for free.
The Psalm for this week is Psalm 35. The Small Catechism lesson is the Seventh Commandment.
This week we will read Part III Article IX: Excommunication. We will talk about what excommunication is and its proper use. We will sing the hymn “‘As Surely as I Live,’ God Said” (LSB 614)
We will then read Part III Article X: Ordination and the Call. We will discuss who has the authority to ordain and call pastors. We close this article by singing the hymn “Send, O Lord, Your Holy Spirit” (LSB 681)
We will continue with reading Part III Article XI: The Marriage of Priests. We will explain why we should permit marriage of priests and also we will take up the issue of gender and sexuality. We will sing the hymn “Wake, Awake, for Night is Flying” (LSB 516).
If we have time we will read Part III Article XII: The Church. As Luther does we will follow the wisdom of a little child for the definition of church. We will close by singing “Built on the Rock” (LSB 645)
