Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen. Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are studying the Augsburg Confession. As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:73-80 (Yodh) and our Catechism lesson will be on the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer. We will consider Article XVII of the Augsburg Confession on Christ’s Return for Judgment. We will talk about the end of the world and what will happen with Christ returns in glory. We will also discuss the permanency of Hell and the heresy of Dispensationalism. We will then sing the hymn “The Day is Surely Drawing Near” (LSB 508).
Next we will cover Article XVIII on Free Will. We will cover the fact that mankind has free will with respect to temporal matters but not with respect to spiritual matters. We are dead spiritually and at enmity with God and thus cannot make a decision for God. Thus it is the work of the Holy Spirit to convert the will itself. We will close with the hymn “Dear Christians, One and All, Rejoice” (LSB 556).
