The Thief on the Cross (Titian)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. We are currently studying the Epitome of the Formula of Concord. We are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open class with Psalm 142 and our catechism lesson which is on the Sacrament of the Altar. We will read Article XI: God’s Eternal Foreknowledge, Predestination, and Election. We will discuss the difference between God’s Foreknowledge and His Election to salvation. We will discuss the heresy of Double Predestination and the true doctrine that God saves and man damns himself. This paradox though is given for our comfort and assurance that God planned to save us from the foundation of the world and that nothing can separate us from Him. We will close with the hymn “If God Himself Be For Me” (LSB 794).
