The Feeding of the 4000, Giovanni Lanfranco (1582-1647)

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube.  Our current study is on the Ecumenical Creeds.  You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed.  Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open our study with Psalm 11, our catechetical lesson will be on the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism.  We will start our study of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds with a discussion of what it means to believe and what faith is.  We will then talk about the unity of God and that there is only one God.   We will then sing the hymn “Sing Praise to God, the Highest Good” (LSB 819).

We will then move on to talk about the first Person of the Trinity, the Father.  That God the Father is the source of all things.  That He is also almighty and has all power to do whatever He wishes in heaven and earth.  We will then sing the hymn “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” (LSB 802).

We will close out our discussion of the First Article of the Creed with a discussion of God as Creator.  How He is the Maker of all things and giver of all life.  That He creates both things visible here on earth but also invisible in heaven.  That nothing is not created by God, and everything no matter how great or small is His mighty work.  We will close with the hymn “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” (LSB 790).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
