Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  This week we are continuing our study on the Ecumenical Creeds.  The worksheet we are using for the Apostles’ and Nicene Creed will be provided. We are also providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.

We will open class with Psalm 88 and our catechism lesson will be the Fourth Commandment. We will continue the Second Article by talking about Jesus as the second person of the Trinity.  We will discuss what it means for Christ to be begotten.  We will also talk about how Christ is the Son of God.  We will close this section with singing “To Jordan Came the Christ, Our Lord” (LSB 406).

We will then continue to discuss the fact that Christ was begotten before all worlds.  Contrary to the Arian heretics, Christ is not the first born of creation but rather begotten from all eternity.  We will then sing “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” (LSB 384)

We will then discussion that Christ is truly God.  He is the Light of the World and and source of all Light.  We will then sing “O Christ, Who Art the Light and Day” (LSB 882).

We will continue our discussion of Christ as God as the Nicene Creed reemphasizes that Christ is truly God.  He is not a demigod, or a lesser god.  He is very God of very God. We will then close with singing “O Morning Star, How Fair and Bright” (LSB 395).

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.   Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
