The Ten Commandments Written By the Finger of God, Arnold Friberg (1913-2010)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on FLC YouTube. We are starting our study on the Ecumenical Creeds. You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed. Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open our study with Psalm 10, our catechetical lesson will be on the Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism. Next we will review the history of Christianity from the death of the Apostle John to the Great Schism in AD 1054. We will learn about the battles in the first millennium of the Church over the Trinity and the person of Christ. These battles will form the background for the writing of the Ecumenical Creeds. We will then launch in to a brief introduction to the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds discussing the origins of those two creeds and discuss the worksheets we will be using for our study. We will close with the hymn “We All Believe in One True God” (LSB 954).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
