Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. This week we are continuing our study on the Ecumenical Creeds. The worksheet we are using for the Apostles’ and Nicene Creed will be provided. We are also providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will open class with Psalm 87 and our catechism lesson will be the Third Commandment. We will start the Second Article by talking about what it means to have a Lord and what the title Lord means with respect to God. We will then discuss the man who is called Lord, Jesus Christ. We will talk about the fact that this man Jesus of Nazareth is no mere man but God incarnate. We will sing the hymn “At the Name of Jesus” (LSB 512)
We will then move on to talk about Jesus as the second person of the Trinity. We will discuss what it means for Christ to be begotten. We will also talk about how Christ is the Son of God. We will close with singing “To Jordan Came the Christ, Our Lord” (LSB 406).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
