Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. This is the last week of our current study on the Didache. We are using “The Apostolic Fathers in English Third Edition” by Michael W. Holmes as our text, which we are providing free of charge. We are also providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book. Our next study on the Smalcald Articles and the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope will start on July 25th.
We will open class with Psalm 106 and our catechism lesson will be on the Introduction to the Lord’s Prayer. We will start with reading Didache 15:3-4. We will talk about what the Gospel is in both a wide sense and narrow sense. We will also discuss how we are to reprove our brothers, seek repentance, and act with love toward our neighbor as our response to the Gospel. We will then sing the hymn “Salvation Unto Us Has Come” (LSB 555).
We will then close our study with reading Didache 16. We will talk about the end of the world and what will happen before and after Christ comes. We will also talk about the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. We will close with singing “The Day Is Surely Drawing Near” (LSB 508).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
