The Magi Following the Star of Bethlehem
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 8pm following the Epiphany Vespers at 7pm. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are beginning a study on the Pilgrim’s Progress. As usual we are handing out the book for free. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will begin our study by reading the reviser’s introduction (pg. 7-8). We will talk about the Puritans and give a brief history of this movement in the Church of England. We will also talk about the theology of the Puritans and what we will need to be on the look out for as we read John Bunyan’s book.
Next we will start on Chapter One (pg. 11-32). We will meet the main character, Christian, who is fleeing the City of Destruction. We will learn why he is forsaking his home and family as well as what his neighbors Obstinate and Pliable think of Christian’s flight.
