Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. Our current study is on the Augsburg Confession. We are providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will open class with Psalm 119:57-64 (Heth) and our catechism lesson will be the Seventh Petition of the Lord’s Prayer. We will then read the Article X on the Lord’s Supper. We will discuss what the Lord’s Supper is and what benefits it bestows. We will also discuss Closed Communion and who is to be permitted to the Lord’s Table. We will then sing the hymn “Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Savior” (LSB 627).
We will then read Article XI on Confession. We will discuss the roles of Private and Public Confession. We will also talk about what sin’s one should confess. While the Confutation agrees with this article it does put rules on how many sins and how often one should confess which the Apology refutes. We will close with the hymn “From Depths of Woe I Cry to Thee” (LSB 607).
