Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. Our current study is on the Augsburg Confession. We are providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will open class with Psalm 119:81-88 (Kaph) and our catechism lesson will be the Second Part on Holy Baptism. We will then read the Article XVI on Civil Government. We will talk about the role of the government and Two Kingdoms theology. We will also discuss how Christians can faithfully participate in the government and the military. The Confutation agrees with this article and the Apology responds by further defending the Lutherans against accusations that they were Anabaptist. We will then sing the hymn “Before You, Lord, We Bow” (LSB 966).
We will then read Article XVII on Christ’s Return for Judgment. We will talk about what will happen when Christ comes again in glory. We will also discuss the New Heavens and Earth that will be for the elect and eternity in Hell for those who have no faith. Also we will talk about how the Lutheran church is amillenial. We will close with the hymn “The Day is Surely Drawing Near” (LSB 508).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
