Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  Our current study is Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. If you do not have a hard copy of the Book of Concord we are providing it for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.

We will beginning with Psalm 127, read the Fourth Commandment from the Small Catechism, and singing verses 1, 5, 11-12 of “These are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581).  We will then continue our study of the Fourth Commandment in the Large Catechism at paragraph 121.  We will continue to discussion how the honoring of parents is foundational for the second table of the Law. Afterwards we will discuss how all temporal (secular and spiritual) authority extends from parents.  We will talk about the authority of government and pastors.  Finally we will discuss the proper use of authority both in the world and in the family.  We will close with the hymn “Happy the Man Who Feareth God” by Dr. Martin Luther.

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
