Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  You can also join us remotely via our livestream.   Our current study is on the Augsburg Confession. We are providing hard copies of the Book of Concord for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.

We will open class with Psalm 119:65-72 (Teth) and our catechism lesson will be the Conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer.  We will then read the Article XII on Repentance.  We will discuss that repentance has two parts, contrition and faith.  We will also discuss whether or not one can lose their faith and if penance is required.  The Confutation disagrees with this article so we will read how the Apology responds.  We will then sing the hymn “When in the Hour of Deepest Need” (LSB 615).

We will then read Article XIII on the Use of the Sacraments.  We will discuss what a Sacrament is and the faith is necessary to receive the gifts given in the Sacrament.  The Confutation agrees with this article but says there are seven Sacraments, thus we will read the Apology’s response which defines only three Sacraments (Baptism, Lord’s Supper, Absolution).  We will close with the hymn “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” (LSB 575)

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.   Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
