Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. If you do not have a hard copy of the Book of Concord we are providing it for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will recite Psalm 45, read the Sixth Commandment from the Small Catechism, and singing verses 1, 7, 11-12 of “These are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581). We will then read the Sixth Commandment in the Large Catechism. We will discuss what a great treasure marriage is and what the order of creation is. We will also discuss proper gender roles, patriarchy, feminism, and transgenderism. We will discuss chastity, celibacy, what to look for in a wife or husband, and how the three estates of family, church, and the government should support and encourage marriage. We will discuss various sins of lust including premarital sex, cohabitation, homosexuality, and pornography. We will also discuss abuses of the institution of marriage such as divorce, polygamy, pedophilia, and homosexual marriage. We will close with the hymn “Wake, Awake, for Night is Flying” (LSB 516).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
