Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  Our current study is Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. If you do not have a hard copy of the Book of Concord we are providing it for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.

We will recite Psalm 15, read the Eighth Commandment from the Small Catechism, and singing verses 1, 9, 11-12 of “These are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581).  We will then read the Eighth Commandment in the Large Catechism. We will discuss what it means to have a good name and how we are to seek and speak the truth especially in court.  We will also talk about how we are to deal in our speaking about private sins and how we are to deal with public sins. We will also discuss the sins of slander, gossip, and how we are to speak of people only in the kindest possible way and build up other people’s reputations.  We will close with the hymn “O God, My Faithful God” (LSB 696)

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
