Joseph flees Potiphar’s Wife

Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm.  You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen.  Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in.  You can also join us remotely via our livestream.  We are studying Martin Luther’s Large Catechism.   As part of the class we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord (which contains the Catechism) and the Lutheran Service Book for free.

We will open our study with Psalm 19, recite the Ninth and Tenth Commandments from the Small Catechism, and sing verses 1, 10-12 of “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581).  We will then study the Ninth and Tenth Commandments in the Large Catechism.  We will discuss how we are not to covet or envy our neighbor’s possession, position, wife/husband, or family.  Instead we are to be content with what the Lord has blessed us and help our neighbor maintain and improve his possessions, reputation, and household. We will close with the hymn “If Thou But Trust in God to Guide Thee” (LSB 750).

We will then read Psalm 112, recite the Close of the Commandments from the Small Catechism.  We will then look at the Close of the Commandments in the Large Catechism.  We will discuss what God demands from us in these Commandments and the blessings and curses bestowed for those who keep and fail to keep the Law.  We will also discuss how breaking one part of the Law, breaks all of the Law, and point forward to the Creed which gives us the solution to our sins against God’s Law, namely the justifying work of Jesus Christ on the cross to forgive sins.  We will close with singing the whole hymn of “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581)

As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class.  Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
