Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesday evenings immediately following the midweek Advent Evening Prayer which start 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. Our current study is Martin Luther’s Large Catechism. If you do not have a hard copy of the Book of Concord we are providing it for free, as well as copies of the Lutheran Service Book.
We will begin with Psalm 84, the Third Commandment from the Small Catechism, and sing verses 1, 4, 11-12 of “These are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581). We will then go into our study of the Third Commandment in the Large Catechism. We will discuss the Sabbath and how Christ is our Sabbath rest. We will discuss why the Church meets on Sunday’s instead of Saturday. We will also talk about what it means to keep the Sabbath holy, namely that we are to be attentive to God’s Word and work among us in the Divine Service. We will close with the hymn “Lord Jesus Christ, with Us Abide” (LSB 585)
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
