The Pharisee and the Tax Collector, James Tissot (1886-1894)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can find the undercroft by going around the back to the parking lot of the church and then down the stairs through the kitchen. Please knock on the door and ring the bell and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. We are studying the Augsburg Confession. As usual we are handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
Our Psalm for the evening will be Psalm 119:105-112 (Nun) and our Catechism lesson will be on the Conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer. We will consider Article XXV of the Augsburg Confession on Confession. We will discuss how Confession is not to be torturous but rather a comfort the sinner. We will then sing the hymn “Savior, When in Dust to Thee” (LSB 419).
Next we will cover Article XXVI on the Distinction of Meats. We will discuss how no tradition, whether it be holy days or fasting, should be connected to Justification. While we are not saved by doing them, we are edified by using such disciplines to focus on God and His Word. We will close with the hymn “By Grace I’m Saved” (LSB 566).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
