Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream. We are beginning our study of “The Hammer of God”. We are handing out copies of this book as well the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open class with Psalm 145 and our catechism lesson which is on the Third Commandment. We will read the first section of the first part “The Call” (pg. 3-42). We will see how Curate Savonius, a fresh seminary graduate and steeped in rationalism, deals with a truly terrified conscience of Johannes who fears for his immortal soul. He will find that consolation for this man will come from an unlikely source, which spurs his desire to become an actual pastor rather than only a man respected for his position. We will close with singing the hymn “Now Thank We All Our God” (LSB 895).
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
