Transfiguration, Titian (1560)
Lutheran Essentials meets in the undercroft of the church on Wednesdays at 7pm. You can reach the undercroft by going around to the back parking lot of the church and descending the staircase to the kitchen. Knock on the door if it is closed and some one will let you in. You can also join us remotely via our livestream on the FLC YouTube. Our current study is on the Ecumenical Creeds. You can find digital copies of the worksheets for the creeds here: Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; Athanasian Creed. Printed copies are available at the church. We are also handing out copies of the Book of Concord and the Lutheran Service Book for free.
We will open our study with Psalm 15, our catechetical lesson will be on the Conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer from the Small Catechism. We will continue to discuss how Christ is God with talking about how Christ is the Light. That is no mere metaphor but God is the source of all light, and God the Son is also Light of Light. We will then sing the hymn “O Christ, Who Art the Light and Day” (LSB 882).
Continuing to drive the point home we will talk about the deity of Christ. That really and truly Christ is fully God, against the delusions of the Arian heretics. We will then sing the hymn “O Morning Star, How Fair and Bright” (LSB 395).
Then to emphasize the point we will talk about Christ being begotten and not made. That Christ has eternally existed and at no point did not exist. We will the sing the hymn “O Wondrous Type, O Vision Fair” (LSB 413).
Finally we will discuss the unity of God the Father and God the Son. How they are two distinct persons yet one in substance. We will then sing the hymn “Savior of the Nations, Come” (LSB 332)
As always new people are always welcome to this study at any point during the class. Please talk to the Pastor, Elders or Paul Edmon if you have any questions.
